Bartlett Inn Ruby Throated Humming Bird

Do you like to sit and watch birds fly and play and to identify them by various markings and bird songs?  The Bartlett Inn in the White Mountains of New Hampshire near North Conway NH and Attitash  is a great place for bird watching, birding or as they say in the UK, Twitching.

There are many unique birds in the White Mountains and many that can be seen only at certain times or at certain types of flora and fauna and elevations.

The Bartlett Inn hangs humming bird feeders with a concoction of water and sugar near the dining room windows.  At breakfast guests enjoy watching the hummingbirds perch and drink and flutter at the feeders.  It is amazing to see the Ruby Throated Humming Brids so close up.  The humming birds are also fun to watch as they are very territorial and and vocal.  In courting they do a very interesting dance where they fly in arcs back and forth to impress.  The males flash their ruby throats which are beautiful while the females are a gray green.

We have enjoyed seeing many unique birds and many common ones too here at the inn. Each spring we are home to nesting Robins, Ruby Throated Humming Birds (tiny nests and eggs), and Northern Rough Winged Swallows.

We have recently had a Red Winged Hawk on our back deck, pileated wood peckers, tufted titmouse, various finch, and even some Cedar Waxwings!  Wild Turkeys are abundant in the area and we have also seen Blue birds, Nut Hatch, Juncos, Robins, Cardinals,  Bard Owl and Morning Doves, and a variety of sparrows..the list goes on and on.

If you want to have a relaxing holiday and do some Bartlett New Hampshire Bird Watching and hiking come stay at the Bartlett Inn  603 374 2353.  There are a few hikes where the Gray Jays will land on your hand to enjoy a snack and a visit!
