North Conway Fall Foliage and The White Mountains are Open for Business in spite of the government furloughs.

North Conway Fall Foliage and The White Mountains are Open for Business in spite of the government furloughs. Call Bartlett Inn for a fall vacation in New Hampshire’s Scenic White Mountains!

North Woodstock, NH – The leaves continue to turn and visitors are still flocking to enjoy the foliage this week in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Despite the recent federal shutdown, which affects employees of the White Mountains National Forest (WMNF), visitors  are unlikely to be affected in this scenic mountain region.

“With no entrance gate or toll booth, New Hampshire’s White Mountains should appear mostly unaffected to visitors” said Jayne O’Connor, President of the White Mountains Attractions Association (WMAA). “The State Parks are open, the private businesses and the scenic drives are open, and even the National Forest campgrounds are open, because they are operated by a vendor.

“Where visitors will see a difference “she said “is in the federal welcome centers and ranger stations,  as these WMNF centers will be closed, so visitors will need to get their maps and services from the private or State visitor centers instead.”

Private and State visitor centers are available in towns such as North Woodstock, Franconia, Littleton, North Conway, Lincoln and Intervale.

Local attractions and New Hampshire State Parks, such as Franconia Notch, Crawford Notch, Pinkham Notch and the lofty Mt. Washington State Park are surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest, but are not affected by the shutdown.

“The Flume Gorge, Cannon Mountain, the Mt. Washington Auto Road, the Mt. Washington Cog Railway and Conway Scenic Railroad’s ‘Notch Train’, all with operations in NH State Parks, are open with all their services available.” O’Connor continued.

The more than 1,200-mile non-motorized trail system throughout the White Mountain National Forest will remain accessible to outdoor enthusiasts, and popular driving tours, such as the Kancamagus Scenic Byway, welcome “Leaf Peepers” as usual.  “Basically, nothing has changed,” remarked O’Connor.  “Visitors can go ahead with their plans.  The attractions are open along with restaurants, retail stores, campgrounds and lodging properties.”  She stated that the foliage is nearing its peak in many areas and should not be missed.

The WMAA has detailed schedule information of all the White Mountains Attractions and foliage updates at www.visitwhitemountains.com.  Free area maps and brochures as well as suggested driving/hiking itineraries are available at their Visitor Center located at exit 32 off I-93 in North Woodstock, NH.

New Hampshire Fall Foliage – Leaf Report

New Hampshire Fall Foliage – Leaf Report
New Hampshire Fall Foliage is finally kicking into gear.  Having lived in the Mt Washington Valley for 11 years I have noticed this years New Hampshire Fall Foliage is starting a little later than most years.  Right now the trees have started to change at higher elevations through the mountain passes and in the low lying marsh areas about 10 tens behind last years changes.  I drove across the Kancamagus highway and the colors were starting and lovely to look at the many scenic overlooks. September has been a beautiful month here in the White Mountains with crisp dry air and few clouds giving the best and furthest visibility of the year.  The Bartlett Inn is located in the heart of New Hampshire Fall Foliage.  Innkeeper Nick will give you an update and map of the best hikes and drives for the best foliage viewing while you enjoy your yummy breakfast in the inn dining room.  Guests at the Bartlett Inn also enjoy discounts to the Mount Washington Auto Road, Wildcat Scenic Gondola and Attitash Scenic Chair Lifts. Fall Foliage White Mountains

Fall Foliage White Mountains update from VisitWhiteMountains.com

CLASSIC FALL FOLIAGE SEASON PREDICTED FOR THE WHITE MOUNTAINS

Strawberry, lemon, butterscotch, tangerine, cognac — you may be thinking recipe ingredients but think, instead, of the feast for the eyes that is fall foliage in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

“We are seeing some leaves changing already,” said Jayne O’Connor, President of the White Mountains Attractions Association (WMAA).  “This early color is a result of a few cold nights and shorter daylight hours affecting some of the trees.  Typically, the very bright colors appear during the last week of September into the first two weeks October, and this year is following that pattern,” continued O’Connor.  When the foliage will be at its finest, or “peak” in leaf-speak, is anyone’s guess but in general, it occurs near the Columbus Day holiday.

The WMAA is forecasting strong tourism numbers for the 2013 New Hampshire fall foliage season.   This prediction is based partially on requests received at their North Woodstock Visitor Center from tourists seeking information about the region’s lodging, dining and sightseeing options.  Other elements factoring into the optimistic outlook are bookings from motorcoach tour operators for local guides, inquiries to the WMAA website, www.VisitWhiteMountains.com, as well as calls from travel writers and tourism professionals asking for familiarization tours of the area.

“Our spectacular fall foliage draws thousands of visitors to our region from around the world and this year is looking very, very good,” commented O’Connor.  “Our major attractions are open for business and have great entertainment for everyone.”

Train trips through colorful countryside are available on a daily basis from the Conway Scenic Railroad, the Cog Railway, the Hobo Railroad and the White Mountain Central Railroad which is located at Clark’s Trading Post.

Attractions shaped by the hand of nature, namely the Flume Gorge, Polar Caves Park and Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves, are open seven days a week into mid-October.

A bird’s eye view of the brilliant leaves can be had from a variety of highflying mountainside transportation.  Loon Mountain’s Gondola Skyride and the Aerial Tramway at Cannon Mountain are operating daily and the scenic chairlift ride at Attitash Mountain Resort and gondola trip at Wildcat Mountain run on weekends.

Kids of all ages can still enjoy Santa’s Village, Six Gun City and Story Land during weekends and adventurous motorists can take a trip to the Northeast’s highest peak on the Mt. Washington Auto Road, open every day.

Driving tours along New Hampshire’s many spectacular roadways afford “Leaf Peepers” endless opportunities to experience nature’s annual kaleidoscopic event and the WMAA offers free maps and route suggestions.  Detailed schedules of all the White Mountains Attractions can be found at www.visitwhitemountains.com.

New England Fall Foliage – follow the colors!

New England Fall Foliage – follow the colors! Every year after the warm days of summer hiking, swimming and relaxing the days start to grow shorter and the nights chillier and the leaves on the trees in New England start to change color.  People often ask when is the peak for color.  Well it changes a little every year and there is usually not a single moment when you say ohhhhhh we are peaking!  It happens slowly over time from mid September through the 2nd to third week of October.  Typically it peaks somewhere in the first 2 weeks of October.  Stay at the Bartlett Inn and Innkeeper Nick will give you a scenic tour based on the color at the time you visit.  There are great drives and hikes, short and long easy and hard with views of the colors and waterfalls too.  Bartlett Inn has discount vouchers for the Mt Washington Auto Road and their mountain biking trails too.  So call 1800 292 2353 to stay at the Bartlett Inn and enjoy New England Fall Foliage – follow the colors!
